Meet the Artist
. . .
|
||||||||||||||||||
| Within these pages are the enchanting creations of doll artist, Marci Wolfe. This imaginative group of fairies and gnomes, Tree Elves and Brumbles, gentle witches and kind wizards, along with traditional olde-world Christmas figures are the inhabitants of a magical land: The Tanglewood Forest. This storybook landscape has something to offer everyone. And each one of the characters play an important role in making the Forest a wonderful place in which to live. It is our wish to offer you these special pieces in the spirit in which they were created; to celebrate the child in all of us. | ||||||||||||||||||

The
Making of the Character Dolls

My work begins by sculpting the original faces, hands and other body parts in Sculpey Clay. They are molded in polyurethane resin and taken through their finishing stages after casting by meticulously cleaning and polishing. The completed parts are then airbrushed to create as life-like a skin tone and coloring as possible. The bodies are hand built by forming a stuffed torso over a steel rod armature that is secured in an oak base. The costuming and accessories (including leather shoes) are designed by myself and my partner, my mother. We use real furs, leathers and imported trims and braids to create a standard of excellence of which we are proud. The hair on all the pieces is a variety of furs that we have chosen to create as life-like a character as possible. The finished work is primarily done in signed, limited editions. The pieces range from single hanging faces approximately 6" x 8" up to our largest work at 38" tall. We have been creating our pieces for fifteen years and have a clientele of over 4,000 collectors all over the world. |
